4/8/18 (Sunday) — 4:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites everyone to another free performance in its 2017-2018 music series. This month’s performer is Cliff Monear. A product of the Berklee College of Music, Monear is a facile and imaginative pianist. In addition to his very full private and public performance schedule and teaching commitments at Wayne State University, Monear is the exclusive Steinway & Sons representative for the Michigan jazz community. At 7 p.m., members and guests can socialize over refreshments; at 7:30 p.m., a brief business meeting will be conducted. At 8 p.m., Marc Pasco of the Detroit Riverfront Conservatory will discuss the history of the development on the Detroit Riverfront and share news about what is still to come. 4/14/18 (Saturday) — 10 a.m. to 12 noon — Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church invites everyone to drop off gently used clothing, shoes, towels and bedding for the church’s clothes closet, the proceeds of which are sorted and distributed to area residents. Men’s women’s and children’s clothes are needed; toiletries, including travel samples, also are welcomed. Area teenagers will help unload donations and provide tax donation forms. Donations also may be dropped off at the church on Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Check-in begins at 11 a.m.; the program begins at 12 noon. Guest speaker is Lynden B. Miller, public garden designer and founder of the 9/11 Daffodil Project in New York City. The breakfast includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, turkey sausage, grits, cheese, fruit, coffee, tea, milk and juice. The event includes a 50/50 raffle. Cost for the breakfast is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 4-12 and free for kids ages 3 and under.
