5/15/17 (Monday) — 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. — Detroit Waldorf School presents its parent/child program at the school for children ages twelve months to three years old, accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Activities include outdoor play, circle time (songs, finger play, games, nursery rhymes), snack preparation, free play, crafts and stories. Cost is $200 for the 6-week session. 5/17/17 (Wednesday) — 7 p.m. — Indian Village Men’s Garden Club meeting at the Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church. 7 p.m. — refreshments and socializing; 7:30 p.m. — gourmet potluck (bring a dish to share); 8 p.m. — brief business meeting, followed by the evening’s speaker, Cathy Richardson of the Manistique Kids Community Treehouse Center in Detroit’s Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood, who will discuss their project for reusing vacant lots in Detroit. For eight years, Cathy has stewarded the Green Goddess Garden; now the group will build a 400-foot, six-sided wheelchair accessible building, which will offer a wide variety of programs for children from 5 to 18 years old https://www.manistiquetreehouse.org/. The concert will feature music from across the centuries by British composers ranging from Handel to Vaughn Williams and Rutter, including Rutter’s interpretations of American spirituals. 5/23/17 (Tuesday) — 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church’s Tutoring TREE program at the church. The program includes a snack, tutoring, art and gym for Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades. Adult volunteers are needed to work with children one on one in reading and math. 5/25/17 (Thursday) — 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. — Taste of Waldorf Tour at Detroit Waldorf School. The program for adults gives participants a chance to visit pre-kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms and learn more about the grades and subject matter. 6/26/17 (Monday) to 8/18/17 (Friday) — 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. — Detroit Waldorf School will offer seven, week-long Summer Arts Camp sessions at the school for children in kindergarten through eighth grade. The camps are open to both non-DWS and currently enrolled DWS students. Session 1 is June 26 – June 30; session 2 is July 10 – July 14; session 3 is July 17 – July 21; session 4 is July 24 – July 28; session 5 is July 31 – Aug. 4; session 6 is Aug. 7 – Aug. 11; and session 7 is Aug. 14 – Aug. 18. Registration deadline is two weeks before a session’s start date. Cost is $250 per session for the first child and $175 per session for each sibling.
