Adult volunteers work one-on-one at the church with Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades, helping them improve their math and reading skills. 2/10/18 (Saturday) — 10 a.m. to 12 noon — Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church invites everyone to drop off gently used clothing, shoes, towels and bedding for the church’s clothes closet, the proceeds of which are sorted and distributed to area residents. Men’s women’s and children’s clothes are needed; toiletries, including travel samples, also are welcomed. Area teenagers will help unload donations and provide tax donation forms. Donations also may be dropped off at the church on Tuesdays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. 2/10/18 (Saturday) — 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. — Taste of Waldorf Tour at Detroit Waldorf School. The program for adults gives participants a chance to visit pre-kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms and learn more about the grades and subject matter. 2/11/18 (Sunday) — 4:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites everyone to another free performance in its 2017-2018 music series. This month, JAPC’s director of music, Stephen Warner, and his wife and JAPC soprano soloist Rose will present “Aspects of Love” in the church sanctuary. The cabaret-style presentation will span nearly 80 years of music and include songs by George Gershwin, Noel Gay, Lerner and Loewe, Noel Coward, Stephen Sondheim, David Shire and Goldrich and Heisler. The church’s Skinner organ will play a prominent role in the afternoon’s concert. Call the church at 822-3456 for more information.

2/18/18 (Sunday) — 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. — The Community Chorus of Detroit invites those who love to sing to a free open-house rehearsal at Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church. The afternoon includes an opportunity to sing with the chorus, visit with current chorus members and learn more about the May concert the chorus will perform. 2/21/18 (Wednesday) — 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. — The Indian Village Men’s Garden Club and the Indian Village Women’s Garden Club have hired landscape designer Jeff Klein from Detroit Farm and Garden to develop a plan to improve the Centennial Garden and the clubs are seeking community input and ideas during a meeting at the Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church. Light refreshments will be served and attendees are asked to come prepared to discuss what they would like to see included in future designs of the garden. Barry Burton, the Men’s Garden Club’s original February speaker, had another commitment and his talk will be rescheduled. 2/24/18 (Saturday) — 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. — Historic Area Cocktail Klub (HACK) party at the home of Scott Koue and Aislinn Scofield, 2151 Seminole. Scott and Aislinn will be celebrating the Lunar New Year, which is celebrated in China, Korea and Vietnam, and they invite their guests to join in the fun. Meet neighbors, sign up to help with this year’s Home and Garden Tour, and learn more about Indian Village’s participation in this year’s Nain Rouge down Detroit’s Second Street in Midtown.
