9/19/17 (Tuesday) — 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church begins the 34th year of its Tutoring T.R.E.E. program at the church. Each week, adult volunteers work one-on-one at the church with Nichols School students in the second through fifth grades, helping them improve their math and reading skills. Snack, art and gym activities also are part of the weekly program. Call Kathy Chateau at 822-3456 for more information or to volunteer.

9/20/17 (Wednesday)7:30 p.m.Indian Village Men’s Garden Club meeting at the Iroquois Avenue Christ Lutheran Church. Ederique Goudia, executive chef for Daemon Hall and a partner in Hall’s upcoming New Orleans-style style restaurant in West Village, will talk about New Orleans food and plans for the restaurant. He also will serve chicken and sausage gumbo, creole cornbread and rum cake to attendees. The Men’s Garden Club will have soft drinks, beer and wine available for a donation. 9/22/17 (Friday) — 8 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church’s The Crew invites everyone to the Grosse Pointe Theaters’ production of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “Pirates of Penzance” at University Liggett School, 1045 Cook Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Tickets are $25 per person for groups of 1 to 9 persons; $23 per person for groups of 10 to 19 persons; and $21 per person for groups of 20 persons or more. Wear your best lampshade and toga and return to the classic 1978 movie, National Lampoon’s Animal House. Children are welcome but not coddled. 9/24/17 (Sunday) — 4:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church invites everyone to the first concert of its 2017-2018 free JAZZ at JAPC series in the church’s sanctuary. This month, the Keller/Kocher Quartet, co-led by bassist Paul Keller and Cary Kocher, will perform. Together since 1987, the quartet brings experience, compatibility, creativity and tradition to its fresh and refreshing mainstream jazz. Call the church at 822-3456 for more information.

10/5/17 (Thursday) — 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church will host a blood drive at the church. Persons are eligible to donate at JAPC if they have not given to another facility after July 27. Volunteers also are needed to help with the drive throughout the day. 10/14/17 (Saturday) — 11 a.m. — Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church will host its annual Blessing of the Animals on the church’s terrace. All animals should be on leashes or in carrying containers. Following the blessing, there will be refreshments for both two-legged and four-legged participants. Call the church at 822-3456 for more information.

10/15/17 (Sunday) — 7:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. — The 40th Detroit marathon, sponsored by the Detroit Free Press and Chemical Bank, will include Indian Village in the race course again this year. A water station will be set up on Seminole between Lafayette and Agnes and volunteers are needed. If you have problems with the attachments, contact Matt Piccirilli at matt.piccirilli@gmail.com who is coordinating the Seminole water station.

12/2/17 (Saturday) — The Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club will host a VIP Holiday Gala to benefit the club’s Artelia Bowne Court scholarship fund. Details to follow.

12/3/17 (Sunday) The Indian Village Woman’s Garden Club will host its annual Indian Village holiday walk, which raises funds for the club’s Artelia Bowne Court scholarship fund. Tour five homes decorated for the holidays, then enjoy an afterglow at a surprise location. Details to follow.
